Cooking on a Budget: Shrimp Fried Rice

College is expensive, and most students don't have enough money to eat out everyday or to cook expensive meals. Some students have meal plans but they are not fond of the food served in their schools. Here is one of the easiest and cheapest recipe college students can make that will last them for a couple of days.

How to make shrimp fried rice


Rice: $2.18

Shrimp: $4.99

Onions (optional): $0.50

Frozen veggies: $1.94

Oil: $5.47

Eggs (optional): $1.39 for a dozen

Total: $16.47


Boil rice until it's a little soft (not overcooked)

Add oil to a pot/pan and wait until it's hot

Add chopped onions to the hot oil

Add the shrimp to the pot/pan

Add your choice of seasoning and stir

Once the rice is cooked, add it to the fried shrimp and stir

Crack eggs, add them to the rice, and stir

Add salt and other seasoning if needed and mix everything

Stir the rice until it's fully cooked

Off the stove and enjoy!
